During the Ramadan month, Malaysians are greeted with a hodgepodge of street food at sunset Ramadan bazaars held at the end of each day of fasting — where Muslims enjoy iftar with their family and friends — and for non-Muslims, these are the places to celebrate with their Muslim friends!
If you’re not sure which bazaar to visit, here are some of our favourites:
TTD1 Ramadan Bazaar
Located in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, it is one of the biggest in the area. You can sample a wide array of traditional Ramadhan fare: nasi kerabu, nasi tomato, nasi hujan, kambing bakar, murtabak just to name a few. There is also an abundance variety of traditional kuihs available here such as kuih tepung pelita, kuih apam bakar and kuih jala.

Section 17 Ramadan Bazaar
The bazaar at Section 17, located right opposite Jaya One just off the main road, is another popular one during fasting month. A long, seemingly endless row of stalls selling mouth-watering food one after another. Apart from the usual servings of murtabaks and lauk, make a point to try the pajeri (curried pineapple) when you are here. Parking can be a nightmare but it might be less of a headache to park at Jaya One and cross the road.

Kampung Baru Ramadan Bazaar
Probably the biggest bazaar in the city. You can be sure to find something here to satisfy your palate from delicious kebabs to scrumptious murtabaks. Don’t forget to queue up for the famous Roti Goreng McGyver, a filled puff pastry. Another must try is the bubur lambuk (porridge). For snacks, try the variety of kuihs and agar-agar sold here. Parking is virtually non-existent so driving is not advisable; take the LRT instead.
